Fully agree with your take on this week's Strange New Worlds. Star Trek has always done courtroom drama episodes very well and this is no exception. This really does feel a lot like "Measure of a Man" but there are some nice callbacks to the Original Series episode "Court Martial" as well. The ending also felt much more realistic to me. The law really does work in small steps, and some sweeping speech on the part of her lawyer to setup some massive sea change in Federation policy would have been unearned (it also would have been a complete rewrite of ST canon, which this show carefully skirts without ever completely blowing it up). In the end, though, we got a strong episode with excellent performances and some very gripping twists and turns as the trial board proceeded. I now actively look forward to new episodes of this show every week. Can't wait for next week's adventure.
I’d put this Star Trek in the same class as “The Inner Light” too. Like for all the social equity and “oneness of mankind”, there’s still hints of segregation.
I thought it was one of the weaker ST:SNW episodes, which is still a passing grade. Why is it that almost all TV lawyers are just not very good litigators? And why does the legal system in an enlightened Federation have so many fewer legal protections for criminal defendants than our own?
Little bit disappointed The Bear is still a binge-release. I realize that was the case with Season 1, but considering all the buzz it's gotten, you'd think maybe they'd want to spread it out a bit? And it's not like other Hulu shows such as Only Murders in the Building or Handmaid's Tale weren't weekly shows.
So likely will be a bit before I can get to Alan's spoiler review.
Really enjoying Strange New Worlds Season 2. Have not watched Season 1 so glad for the intro (re-intro) of all the regulars over the first 2 episodes. (After enjoying Picard final season and reading your recommendation glad to have given it a try.) Took me. a while to recognize Rebecca Romijn as Una. Glad to see her again. One of my guilty pleasure was The Librarians where she was great. (Particularly enjoyed their Holiday episodes, including a great one with Bruce Campbell as Santa.

Ethan Peck is a comedic gem as Spock.
After "Instagram influencer" do you know what the worst two word combination is in the English language? "Cinematic universe".

Just finished Secret Invasion. That was horrible.

As a Maryland fan, that brief shot of Duke’s comeback at the end of Episode 8 still hurt.
