Thanks for the heads up that Dreaming Whilst Black is here Alan. I’ve been following Adjani for a bit and hadn’t heard anything about whether/when this was arriving. I was also curious whether “whilst” would stay in the title but clearly they decided to leave it as is!

Really disappointed in Hulu's twin cancellations of The Great and How I Met Your Father. I get that the former ended on a fairly satisfying note. But you'd think there would be a whole lot of material to mine out of the big death and its effect on Catherine. After all, most of her actual reign was without him!

And yeah HIMYF wasn't the best show on television, but it really improved in season 2. And we never did learn who the father was.

I got to assume these cancellations are directly tied to the strike and the financial impact?

Aw man this is how I found out about The Great. :( What a bummer, it was a terrific show with a great cast, amazing production design, and some of the best writing I've ever seen on TV.

It's easy for a discussion of The Great to be overshadowed by Fanning and Hoult's performances, because they were as good as any on TV. But what I think I loved most about the show was that they made time--and effectively used the time--to build up pretty much every character on the show. Obviously Mariel and Archie and Orlo and Velementov and Elizabeth and Grigor and Georgina. But by the end I could make an argument that my very favorite characters were Arkady and Tatiana, neither of whom I probably knew the name of until late in season one. Even the kid playing Maxim was funny every time he was on screen. I loved all of them.

There was random violence and sex and the most campy Real Housewives drama going right into real drama that could rip your heart out and it was all wonderful.

Yes to all of this!! For me, of all the supporting characters I was always really taken with Brenda Bromilow as Elizabeth - she was marvelous. Absolutely one of the best written shows on TV, I'm so bummed more people didn't watch it.

Well said!!

Don't know if anyone saw either of them, but Minx and the After-party both just closed out their second seasons, and I found both to be an improvement on the first. They also both featured Elizabeth Perkins in similar wealthy widow roles while airing at the same time, which is kinda funny.

For the After-party, it seems like they leaned on the individual episode genres even more than last time, with a full episode in black and white, and, my favorite, a Wes Anderson episode. This time they also changed character's wardrobe to match the genre sometimes, which lead to great moments like the Jane Austin or film noir episodes.

The After Party was great! Highly recommend Episodic Medium's reviews: https://episodicmedium.substack.com/s/the-afterparty

A delay in the filming of the next season of The Last of Us is a good thing. In the second game Ellie is the central character and is much older. I was wondering how they were gong to make Bella Ramsey look the part.

RIP The Great - I evangelized about it for 3 seasons, to no avail. I will watch anything McNamara writes.

I'm still catching up on the most recent seasons of What We Do in the Shadows. I watched it while it was airing for the first two seasons and then took a long break for whatever reason. Now I'm catching back up. All I have to say is: Harvey Guillén is a TREASURE and I want a wonderful career for him. He was also fantastic in the most recent Puss in Boots. I just love him so much.

Dark Winds also wrapped its season last Sunday, although I found an “Episode 0” on the DVR from Thursday; haven’t played it yet but it appears to be a wrap-up doc on Season 2. I cared far more about the character interplay than this season’s mystery plot except insofar as the latter informed or merged with the former. Zahn McClarnon’s distinct work as Joe Leaphorn on DW and Big on Reservation Dogs is even more impressive in the wake of the largely comic-relief Big getting serious a couple of weeks back and Joe loosening up in the coda of the DW finale.

Sarah Podemski, meanwhile, shone on RD once again. I hope that she pops up more frequently on Resident Alien whenever that finally returns. The cast and creators of Reservation Dogs bear following (no pun intended) — some of them, like Devery Jacobs, both in front of and behind the camera.

Maybe I should finally check out Rutherford Falls.

Rutherford Falls has its charms -- especially when it’s focusing more on the Native characters than Ed Helms -- but was definitely a distant third among those three shows that briefly co existed.

Thanks. I have a low tolerance for Ed Helms' usual stuff (like Will Ferrell's and other snarky and/or clueless man-child schtick) or I'd probably have sampled it from go.

The second season is much better about recognizing that the show shouldn’t really be about him.

Alan, I used this somewhat quieter TV times to finally watch Miracle Workers. Have you ever reviewed or watched it? I'm very curios to here what you think since I thoroughly enjoy it and I found that our opinions match 99% or the time :D

I’ve only seen the first season, where I found Buscemi hilarious and struggled with the rest. https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-reviews/miracle-workers-review-793332/

Interesting! So I'm assuming at that point you didn't know it was an anthology?

Indeed, season 1 is easily compared to TGP, while I felt like season two was more of a Galavant/Another Period mix.

Hope you continue to watch someday so we can have a review :D

Yes to Miracle Workers!! This remains one of the funniest musical numbers I've ever seen on television:

Oh yes. I was like - this is why this guy has done so much Broadway, and when will he play Hedwig/FrankNFurter.

Loved ‘How to.. ‘ so much, hopefully John Wilson can come up with more gold and find someone to air it for us to learn even more!

Loved seeing "The O.C."-themed strike day. Great signs and goodies.

Oh and it's been so long since I've watched any OC that I legitimately would not have known that was the cast just from the photo without a caption lol.

Well, only some of them are actors from the show (the rest are writers or other crew), and all of the actors are wearing baseball caps.

I misread "While Shadows" as "White Shadow" and wondered if I missed a reference to High School basketball in a different New York borough (Queens). Perhaps Lazlo has the DVDs of "White Shadow".
