Thanks for always putting out such thoughtful and engaging writing, no matter the platform.
Seeing Reservation Dogs top your list of shows finally induced me to start watching it, and wow, what a show! I was laughing so hard at Uncle Brownie that it was a struggle to breathe sometimes.
Alan, you've been one of my favorite people to listen to and read, going back to the old podcast, through the TV and Sopranos books and I'm just now catching up on Better Caul Saul, supplemented with your reviews. Appreciate you and have a Happy Holiday! Lamar Bourgeois III, New Orleans, LA
Although I’m certain I read your work previously I really only started following you after you started participating in the Poscast Holiday Draft. Thank you for all your amazing work and for your ability to make Mike Schur go absolutely apeshit.
Thank you for the great newsletter Alan. Seriously, I don't think there's anyone who can ugly cry better than Claire Danes. What an amazing episode of tv.
I too thought Reservation Dogs was the best thing to air in 2022. In regards to an episode that blew me away that you didn't list it was "The Plot Thickens" from Season 2. There were so many great episodes this season that honestly any of them could be picked as the best (I liked the Cheese episode since it felt like a Hal Ashby film). Now in regards to the Officer Big episode, at first I thought the episode would end with it being revealed the whole thing was part of his acid trip but once it's shown the catfish cult does exist and that he and Kenny Boy stopped it, I laughed my ass off so hard (and there were many moments where I couldn't stop laughing). I would label the episode as the season 2 of True Detective we deserved.
Thank you so much for including The After Party's musical episode. I really liked the show and that episode sure was a stand out. Yeah sure, whatever.
I also could've seen The Black Queen as maybe making the list, though I definitely agreed with your decision not to include House of the Dragon on the top shows of the year.
Love Letterkenny! I do appreciates you enjoys it toos.
Thank you for all you've written and spoken since being hired by The Star Ledger with MSZ back in the early 1990s.
